Porcelain Sally

Writing Prompt – Day 31
**If you are new to Writing Prompt Pal, click here before reading any further!**

Coming at ya with a horror prompt! It is the daytime and my fam is home so I’m not too creeped out for this one like I was last Friday. (Yes, I’m a chicken haha!)

Timer set…

Let’s have fun & write on!

You’ve put that doll in the cabinet, in the closet, in the attic, but no matter where you tuck it, it always shows back on the sofa. On Halloween night, you come out to find it watching you…

My example :

Porcelain Sally, that’s her name. I don’t know where she came from. But I do have the feeling that she was the reason the previous owners had moved. It’s not surprising they forgot to disclose such important details about the damn doll when they sold me the house months ago.

The thing with Sally is, I’ve tried everything to get rid of her. I started by tucking her deep into the closets, the attic, placing her into locked safes, and even trying to burn the damn thing. But every time, she shows back up in the same spot on the couch untouched. She just sits there, not moving, silently mocking all of my efforts to rid of her.

I want to move. I want to escape her. But I’ve invested all of my life’s savings into this house. There’s nowhere for me to go. All of my attempts to contact the previous owners have been dead ends. It’s as if they don’t exist anymore, they are untraceable.

It’s Halloween night and Sally sits on the couch. I’ve avoided the room all night but it’s time for bed and I have to walk past. I walk down the hallway and try not to look as I pass her, but it’s unmistakable. My peripheral vision catches movement. I slowly walk backwards and work up the nerve to look. She’s smiling. She has never smiled before.

My heart races as we stare at each other. I take a step forward and watch as her head slightly follows.

“What the hell do you want?!” I scream.

I sound crazy. But what’s happening to me is even crazier. I haven’t told anyone about it. I know they wouldn’t believe me.

Her smile grows bigger.

She’s taunting me. And there’s nothing I can about it. I walk up to her and meet her gaze.

“I will rid of you if it’s the last thing I do,” I growl.

I freeze. I hear a little girl’s laughter from behind me. I turn abruptly to see nothing there. I look back at the doll, she’s gone. There’s a sudden knock at the door. It must be trick-or-treaters.

I rush to the door to open it, needing an escape from the reality I’m trapped in. I’ll give the kids candy and run out of the house. I don’t feel safe anymore.

I yank on the door handle, but the door doesn’t open. I yank harder. I’m trapped. I look through the peep hole.

I gasp. I was wrong. It’s not trick-or-treaters. It’s another doll. It’s head slowly twists around and when it snaps back into place, its eyes start bleeding. More laughter comes from behind me, then beside me, then all around. It’s surrounding me. I cover my ears, wishing it to stop. I scream.

I stand still as silence burns through the air. I don’t move an inch. And then…

I hear Sally’s feet pattering across the floor. I turn but she’s not there. Fear and anger take over my entire body.

I go to search for her and then I stop…

There she is, back on the couch. Staring at me with her twisted smile and her small hands folded together in her lap.

A tear rolls down my cheek as she cocks her head to the side and says, “You can never get rid of me.”

Ahh creepy dolls, that’s always been a silly fear of mine. I don’t care if all of my savings were tied up into a house, I would live in a cardboard box if I had to lol!

How’d you do pals?!

  1. My Prompt Is Nothing Close to being as Good as Yours! Yours Gave Me Some Real Chills! Anyway, Mine Is Down Below!

The day before Halloween, I was petrified, didn’t I just put that thing in the cabinet?! I swore to God I did, but there it was, on the couch, staring blankly at the static TV, remote in hand. I grabbed the remote, shut off the TV, and put the doll in the closet this time. I put a lock on it too, and then went to the dining room for a few for an online interview. I got my best clothing on and prayed. As soon as I joined the Zoom call, My hopefully new boss said, “Jordan, why is there a doll behind you?”. I was scared, annoyed at the same time, “One minute sir.” I replied, I turned around and it was gone. I went to the cabinet, sure thing, the lock was gone, not broken, just gone. The door was open, and I was sure that it was back on that damn couch. I turned and sure enough, there the doll was. I grabbed it off the couch, opened the attic way above the basement, and just threw it up, not even thinking. I shut the door, put the cabinet at the bottom so it couldn’t open, and then went back to my chair to resume my interview. “Sorry about that Sir, I should have it taken care of now.”, I said as we continued. The interview went well, that doll didn’t interfere. I got up when it was done and looked at the clock, 9 PM, it was getting late, I checked on the doll before heading to bed. It was still locked. I went to bed. I barely got any sleep, that doll stayed on my mind. I turned to the clock, it was 3 Am, the Devil’s hour I had heard. Throughout the entire hour I didn’t hear a thing. It was officially Halloween. I got up to get some water, my throat was awfully dry tonight. As soon as I got up, I heard giggling from the living room. “What the hell?”, I went to the living room, the doll was on the couch, staring at me this time. I heard giggling from behind me. I looked back, nothing, I turned back to the doll, it was gone. I started frantically looking through my home, I couldn’t find it anywhere. I kept hearing giggling at every corner, but no sign of the doll, not until I looked at my mirror. There it was, staring at me from directly behind me, the lights started to flicker. I was terrified. I couldn’t remember past that; I must’ve been knocked out. I woke up in a dark room, sitting tied in a chair with a mirror in front of me. One look at it scarred me for life.
