Flight 117

Writing Prompt – Day 15

Woohoo! It’s about to be the weeeeeekend! I still have to work tomorrow but I get Sunday off! Not that you guys asked lol.

I’m definitely hoping you get the weekend off, especially if you have kids!

Okay, so we have made it to FIFTEEN days of writing prompts. We are on a roll! Honestly, time has been flying super-fast lately and I can’t believe another week has already flown by.

Oh and if anyone has been dying to know… we def got that snow storm and it’s still going!

Alright pals, enough chitter chatter lol. We have done quite a few mystery/suspense prompts this week so let’s do something a little more light-hearted (well, unless you consider it as horror lol).

Here is today’s writing prompt…

A divorced former couple find each other on the same flight to Paris… Sitting next to each other.

my example :

Charlotte closed her eyes and re-centered herself once she finally made it into her seat. Getting there was hectic. The amount of people she had to weasel her way through once she arrived was exhausting, and the airport procedures were long and daunting. But, she made it.

She peered out the window once she felt calmer. The window seat was her favorite. She couldn’t wait for the plane to soar through the clouds. She pulled out her cell phone and made last minute texts to the clinic before the flight attendants forced her to turn it off. This was the first time in a long time she was taking a week’s long vacation away from her second home and one – it was necessary for her sanity, and two – it was quite possible she was hitting a mid-life crisis. She was forty-three, no kids, divorced for ten years, and had one companion at home – a cat named Tiffany who was currently being watched by her dear sixteen-year-old nephew. She worked long and hard to open up her own family practice six years ago and things were going exceptionally well.

Charlotte tapped a message out to her nephew to check on Tiffany before the pre-flight announcement came on. The excitement that she was going to be in Paris in approximately nine hours was finally working its way through her. She looked over and realized that she was one of the lucky ones to have no-one seated next to her. She smiled and grabbed a book out of her purse. This was the life.

“Excuse me. Excuse me. Thank you. Sorry. Thanks.”

She could hear a last-minute passenger weeding his way toward the back of the plane. Oh, please God, don’t be taking the seat next to me, Charlotte thought. She stared out the window and winced as she hoped for the passenger to pass by her seat but somehow, she already knew she wasn’t going to be so fortunate.

“Hi. I know you were probably jumping for joy thinking you had an empty seat next to you. I’m really sorry but hey, you won’t even know I’m here. I promise.”

Charlotte froze.

No, no, no. This can’t be happening.

She knew that voice from anywhere. How she didn’t recognize it earlier is beyond her.

Michael slid into his seat quietly and whispered, “See. Bet you didn’t realize I sat down already. I’m that stealthy.”

Oh no. Charlotte’s ex-husband was the same charming character he had always been. She thought about running off the plane and booking another one, even if that meant arriving a day late, but she was lucky enough to get this one and knew there wouldn’t be a chance at going to Paris if she didn’t remain seated in her worst nightmare. Nine hours, she thought. Nine hours and she would be in heaven.

“Oh, and one more thing,” Michael continued to whisper, “I don’t like to be disturbed so I really need you to keep it down over-” He stopped dead in his tracks as Charlotte looked over at him. “Good Lord! Charlotte is that you?”

Charlotte nodded.

“No way. Out of all the booked flights to Paris, we happened to get one on the same day, same flight, sitting right next to each other? That’s something only in the movies. I’m shocked.”

“You and me both,” Charlotte said, forcing a smile.

Michael started laughing. “Just no way. You are stuck with me for nine whole hours. I felt sorry for you before I knew you were you, but oh my God, I can tell you are fuming right now. Don’t worry though, as soon as we get off the flight, I’ll be staying at Hotel Gérando,” he attempted the accent with a wave of his hand, “then,” he smiled, “you can go back to your peaceful vacation.”

Charlotte’s face paled. “Did you say Hotel Gérando?”

“Mmhmm. Hey, if you got a,” – he lowered his voice to a whisper – “not so fancy one,” – then raised his volume again – “I’m not judging.” He winked.

Ugh, he was so annoying. Charming, yes, but that was only when he thought she was someone else. Now that he knew she was Charlotte, he was going to taunt her and enjoy every minute of it. But not if she made it off the plane before she gave him a chance. And after hearing they were going to be staying at the exact same hotel, she was more than ready to cancel her trip.

“I, ugh, I-” she stammered over her words as she stood up.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is Carlee Hadaroy and I’m your chief flight attendant. On behalf of Captain Warner and the entire crew, welcome aboard Flight 117 of Eagle Soar Airlines…”

What do you guys think? She’s stuck with her ex-husband for a whole week. Are they going to rekindle something? Fall back in love? Is Charlotte going to dislike him even more at the end? Maybe even despise him? Or maybe they somehow manage to ignore each other the whole time… Ahh, who am I kidding, I’m sure you know which way that one was headed. (;

Feel free to share how your prompt turned out in the comment below. We would love to hear it!

I have no prompts figured out yet for next week so send your ideas over with some ideas and I’ll be sure to use them.

I’m sad we won’t be back until Monday but taking a break is good. I feel like five days a week is perfect for not burning out on writing, and of course for sharpening our writing skills & staying more easily committed.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN LIKING MY POSTS AND/OR HAVE CLICKED FOLLOW – I SEE YOU!!! & thank you so much for your support! (:
