Wrong Number

Writing Prompt – Day 3

I hope everyone’s day is going well! It’s the day after Valentine’s Day and I realized that I should have done a writing prompt yesterday to honor the holiday… I guess it’s better late than never! So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, let’s do a fun romance exercise. ❤

And now…

The moment you’ve been waiting for…

Here’s the prompt! (:

A stranger texts the wrong number, and accidentally sends you a declaration of love. The message is so sweet and heartfelt that you know you can’t let it go.

My example :

Jenny locked the door behind her and slid her shoes off against the wall. Her feet hurt from a long day at work and all she had on her mind was relaxation time. After placing her purse on the end table, she made her way into her small kitchen and poured herself a glass of red wine. She took a sip, grabbed her book off the dining room table, and sighed as she took a seat on her couch.

With her legs now kicked up on her coffee table, she took another sip of wine and placed it down on a coaster. She sat back, getting ready to flip to the bookmarked page in her book when her phone suddenly chimed.

Damn it, she thought.

She had just gotten cozy and now she had to get back up to fetch her phone.

Two more chimes went off.

“Okay, okay. I’m coming,” she let out.

With all the strength she had left, she forced herself over to her purse and pulled out her phone. On her way back to the couch, she furrowed her brows, uncertain of the number texting her. Sitting back on the couch, she clicked the text messages open.

I can’t go on without telling you how I feel about you. I know that you have had a hard time lately and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to tell you or not but I just can’t go on without finally letting you know the truth. I’m sorry if this is too much. If it is, just let me know and I won’t ever breathe another word of this again.

Amy, I don’t want you to go through hard times like this alone. I want to be the shoulder you lean on, the strength you need when you can’t go on anymore. I want to be the one honored to wake up to you every morning, make your favorite eggs with toast, and a glass of orange juice with the high pulp you like.

I want to be the one to hold you, to cry with you, to laugh with you, to be the man you always need me to be. I want to love you the way you deserve to be loved. And if I can’t be the one, then I hope you find the man of your dreams to give you everything that I have dreamed of giving you. Because you deserve nothing less.

Another chime.

The truth is, I can’t live without knowing that you are okay. And I would never want you to settle. So if I’m not the man of your dreams, please please please let me know. So I can make room for you to find that man, no matter how much it hurts. I love you Amy, and I needed you to know how much. I understand if you don’t love me back the same. But if you do… please tell me.

Jenny sat there, stunned. She wasn’t sure how she was going to break the news to this poor desperate guy that he had texted the wrong number. The cold wine slid down her throat while she contemplated what she was going to text back. And all the while she was wishing that she was Amy.

I hope you had as much fun as I did with this one!
