Writing Prompt – Day 75

Write about a character with crumbs in their pocket.
My example :
The white cloud forming with each exhale serves as a stark reminder of how cold I am. I’ve grown numb, mirroring the numbness within, and it dawns on me that I’ve been slipping in and out of awareness.
How long have I been walking for?
The city is abandoned and run-down, appearing sinister, but I’m too tired to care. My feet drag and I’m losing the struggle to keep going. I imagine the blisters on my feet bursting with each step I take.
I should take shelter in one of these buildings, but I don’t know what’s lurking inside. I’d rather die in the cold than to meet the same fate the others have.
My mouth is dry. Between dehydration and the gnawing hunger, it’s hard to tell if that’s worse than the rest of the pain coursing through my body. Every part of me aches, pleading for rest, but I’m afraid if I do they will win.
The people watching me. They are all around. I’m probably on camera right now for being one of the last contestants standing. Well barely standing, but at least I’m still alive.
If I would have known this is what I was getting myself into, no amount of money would have convinced me to be here. I wouldn’t have signed the contract. And I believe I can speak for everyone else who came here with me.
I dig into my pocket, willing for there to be just one cracker left. But instead, I come up nearly empty-handed. Still, I suppose crumbs are better than nothing. Swallowing is no easy task, but I manage. Just then, a mirage of gorgeous water in the far distance taunts me. I’m aware it’s only a hallucination but what if I’m wrong?
Attempting to quicken my pace, my body’s weakness takes over and I lose my footing. My head smacks against the pavement and I’m left disoriented.
With how far I’ve come, this can’t be how it ends.
