Writing Prompt – Day 59

Describe what it’s like to sit in rush hour traffic.

My example :

I come to a slow rolling stop. The traffic is built up for miles but luckily, I left just in time, meaning I won’t be late by the time I get there. I look around and see it on the faces of the drivers surrounding me that they didn’t do the same. By the agony I see, they will be late to their destination, and they are growing increasingly impatient as we all sit here.

My window is slightly cracked down and I’m listening to the car next to me argue about not having stopped at a rest station a ways back when they could have. There’s a family in that car. Poor kids will have to hold it for at least another half hour. They must be going on vacation I think to myself while the warm morning sun beams down on my left arm. I’m going to get a one-sided farmers tan; I just know it.

I inch my car up when the traffic moves just the slightest. The person ahead of me is bobbing their head to music and singing along. I can tell they are trying to be respectful of people surrounding them because their windows are rolled up so we can’t hear. Please roll that window down, I tell myself as I take a sip of my coffee. I could use some free entertainment. I inch up a little more as the traffic does.

I didn’t feel as creative with this one, but I still got the job done. That’s what writing prompts are for right? To get you to write even when you can’t really think of anything and at least produce something. Even if ultimately, it’s totally unusable. Hence, this piece for example lol! It also didn’t fall in any certain category. Not much going on there, haha! Lesson for today: If you can’t think, that’s okay, try anyway! (:

How’d you do pals?!
