Writing Prompt – Day 55
You find a hand-written note on your windshield that says, “Drive west for 100 miles.”
My example :
Alex took a bite of the juicy cheeseburger the waitress bent down to place in front of him. It was ridiculous how flirty the women got around him. He was good looking sure, but everyone knew the real reason he was drooled over: His money. The watch on his wrist that cost more than most of his friends’ cars, the latest and greatest tech, and the Ferrari in the parking lot.
“I have a meeting I have to get to so I have to cut this short my dude,” Alex said. He waved the waitress over for his check.
“No big deal,” Cody said. “It was nice seeing you.”
Alex checked his watch and threw a stack of bills on the table. “Alright man, I’ll get ahold of you next time I’m in town.” Without waiting for a reply, he rushed out the door.
Cody looked around and then at the stack on the table. He slid the money in his hands and counted the stack. When the waitress came over, he paid for the bill, left a five-dollar tip, and pocketed the remaining couple hundred.
A note underneath Alex’ windshield flapped lightly in the wind. In a rush, Alex grabbed the note and got in his car. He couldn’t be late for the meeting being held in less than a half hour. He had to get going since he knew riding around in the small town, he wouldn’t be able to put the petal to the metal without getting pulled over. He was only here for the meeting and then he would head back to the big city when it was over.
The handwritten note was written on a ripped out lined piece of paper. He opened it up: Drive west for 100 miles.
Alex scoffed. “Fuck that.” He pulled out of the parking lot and headed east, toward his small business in town. He would deal with the consequences of the note later.
