Writing Prompt – Day 53
You run a tiny mom and pops-type store that you run with your family.
My example :
Sally started her shift at the small gas station her family had owned for two decades. Her mom was working in the other room with a small collection of antiques and souvenir type items for the store. Living in a small town, all the locals could be seen wearing the merch every now and again, making Sally’s parents proud.
Walking over to the coffee maker, Sally stared at the cappuccino that she usually steered away from. After a late-night last night, she finally decided she wanted to be loaded with sugar and she scooped a cup underneath the faucet and pulled the trigger. French vanilla filled her senses while she watched the steam coming out. She slid two ice cubes in her coffee, popped a lid on, and went over to the register to relieve her uncle for the day.
“Good morning sweetheart.”
“Morning Uncle Will. How was your shift?” Sally asked. She tipped her cup back and felt a slight sting on her tongue from where the ice didn’t cool the coffee enough.
Will put his finger up for a moment as he finished counting the register. “It was-” he said as he started to close the drawer while his eyes moved out onto the floor.
The look of horror sent a chill down Sally’s spine. She gazed toward her uncle’s glance and froze. The grip on her cappuccino loosened and it splashed to the floor, spilling around them. Sally’s mom was in the other room, unaware of the quiet intruder with a ski mask standing in front of them. He held a finger to his lips in a shush motion and a machine gun was slung over his body, resting against the side of him.
As soon as I read the prompt for the day, my mind went to a gas station even though technically it’s supposed to be a mom and pop’s shop. But hey, it got my creative juices flowing anyway! Lol!
