Writing Prompt – Day 48
What was your greatest dream as a child?
My example :
The moment I woke up, my feet hit the floor, embracing another beautiful day. Living in the country made waking up so much easier. The birds would welcome you back to the world with their songs and the sunlight would sweep in, warming your skin. I could hear Cookie and Mazy already awake, trotting playfully around the field out back.
I stood up to stretch and felt Junior twirling around my legs, begging for pets with his good morning meow. My heart always felt full after a good night’s rest and I was already pumped for the day, hearing the life that awaited my wakening. They were all my friends – family, who would get so excited to see me.
I made my bed, pulled some clothes on, and slid my feet into my field boots. I knew there would be a slight chill in the air so I grabbed my jacket and slid that on too. I would eat later. I liked to take care of my morning chores before I sat down and enjoyed a meal.
“Hey you,” I said, leaning down and scratching behind Junior’s ears. I grabbed the cat treats waiting on a shelf next to the front door and lightly shook them. Junior could hardly contain his excitement as I poured a small handful onto the floor. I zipped the bag back up and headed out. “I’ll be back. You behave while I’m gone now.” Closing the door behind me, I smiled as the fresh air filled my senses.
I headed out back and was greeted at the fence by Cookie and Mazy. I would ride one of them later but for now, it was time to spoil them. Behind them, the sun was rising, creating remarkable color in the sky. After my horses were taken care of, I headed back into my home, bracing for impact as I opened the door.
“Mom!” In unison, my four children yelled and ran toward me. I was lucky to have a family who loved me so much. My husband was already gone for work by the time I woke up every morning, but it was for the best. We chose to have him home for dinner rather than being home in the mornings. The reasoning is simple: I know my lovely face is the one my children want to see first thing in the morning, I mean, who wouldn’t?
Truth is, our family is beyond blessed. We go to church on Sunday’s, we all take care of Junior, Cookie, and Mazy together, we go on family picnics, and play puzzles, and do chores together, and play games together.
We love hard, work hard, and play harder. And I wouldn’t want life to be any other way.
When I was little, I always dreamed of owning horses, with four kids, and a cat. I didn’t think much more beyond that but I remember one of my favorite things I received as a gift was on my birthday one year. My mom had bought me a bracelet and a t-shirt with a horse on it and I wore that thing all the time. I wanted to live out in the country so bad. Fast forward to today, and well, things have changed a bit. Lol. I’m not as much of a fan of real country living. It just may be a bit too far for me and the bugs aren’t appealing at all. Not to mention, the drive it takes to get to places. Oh, and the well water! Yuck! I’m happy with somewhere nice and in-between. 🙂 And as for the horses… my experience with them haven’t been the most pleasant. I’ve been bit by one because I foolishly wore fruity lotion, and it thought I was a treat – which I am by the way haha! And I also rode another one where I was gripping the reigns for a whole hour, anticipating my death by being bucked off and stomped on. He was not a fan of me – granted he had just started a new diet he wasn’t happy with, and for some reason ungodly reason, they decided to put me on him without me knowing that! Smh… Lol! So, a bit of fear has grown toward horses these days. Plus, they are huge animals! And that’s very intimidating to me. I do own two cats though! Not by choice because as I got older, I wasn’t interested in owning animals. But they chose me and my family. And I couldn’t resist. Jasper showed up at my door one day and wouldn’t leave. I posted him online but no-one claimed him. Then, Hunter’s mom showed up at my door and wouldn’t leave. We let her in and next thing we knew, she was having babies in our basement! Hunter was the runt of the bunch so we kept him. And I wouldn’t change having them for the world. They bring a light to our life and I’m glad I was forced to take the little majestic cuties in! So, there you have it. Childhood dream vs Adult reality. Haha! Enough abotu me. I’ll see you guys back here tomorrow! (:
