Writing Prompt – Day 47
After you move to a new city, you fall in love with your realtor while buying a new house.
My example :
Krista scrolls through the new listings, looking for a starter home in her new city. The life she left behind is one she will never look back on. With this fresh new start, she promises herself things will never get out of control like they had before.
She passes through the listings she has already seen. Sighing, she throws her phone on the couch and looks around her apartment. It’s small, but not the worst place in the world to stay. She’s all but given up when her phone chimes. She picks it up and her heart does a flip when she sees it’s from Colby.
Hey there. Just wanted to send you this listing incase you are interested. It hasn’t hit the market yet so if you are interested, let’s schedule a showing right away. I have a feeling this one won’t last long.
Attached to the text is a link that she doesn’t click. She writes him back right away to book the showing as soon as possible. The truth is, she doesn’t care what the house looks like, as long as she gets to see Colby.
Five months she’s been living in this apartment, half-heartedly looking for a house. Maybe she would already be settled in to a home in a cozy neighborhood if she had chosen a different realtor. But how was she supposed to know the feelings she would grow for him?
Her phone goes off again and she clicks his reply.
I know this is super last minute but if you can meet me there in a half hour, we have a fighting chance if you end up loving this house. We got lucky with this one.
Krista smiles. I’ll be there, she sends and then she rushes to freshen up.
Exactly a half hour later, she pulls up to a small ranch-style house in a suburban neighborhood. From the outside it looks perfect, and she fears that the inside will be too. She turns her engine off and meets Colby at the front door where he’s waiting for her.
“Hey there! Thanks for meeting so soon. I hope your day is going good,” Colby says. That smile he gives her could make her heart melt.
“It is now,” she replies, wondering if he will know it’s because of him and not the house.
Colby laughs as he twists the dial on the door lock to the correct code. “Well, I sure hope it stays that way. We might finally have a winner here.” He pulls the dial apart and hands her coverings to put on her feet. “Here we go.”
The inside is immaculate. Somehow, the house is right in Krista’s budget and after the tour, she realizes it is absolutely perfect. Putting a bid on this house should be a no-brainer, but Krista isn’t in the right mindset. She contemplates what to do. Does she put the bid in or does she pass up what is quite possibly the best house she’s going to find. She knows it’s crazy to pass it up just so she can see Colby again, but then again, the heart knows what the heart wants.
She tells Colby she needs a few minutes to think about it. She steps away from him and considers her options…
The house or Colby?
Well given the unknown life Krista was running away from, it just may be that she’s not the most stable person. To pass up a house to still see a realtor you only see briefly every now and then might be a clue to her mental state. But then again, maybe she feels a pull towards him, intuition that he’s the one for her. The heart knows what heart wants, right? What do you think? Love story or dangerous obsession?
How’d you do pals?!
