Writing Prompt – Day 44
Let’s write! (:
Imagine what would happen if you woke up one morning unable to see, speak, or hear.
My example :
Jane wakes to the plastic circular piece buzzing beneath her pillow. She reaches over and feels for the alarm clock to turn it off. Being a heavy sleeper, Jane had to order a special alarm clock from Amazon to guarantee she’d wake up in the mornings. It was one of the best purchases she made, although she does grumble every time she awakens to it, desperately wanting to sleep in, but now it’s utterly impossible.
Groggily, she pushes herself up and slowly opens her eyes. She gives her eyes a minute to adjust and when her mind begins to clear, she realizes something isn’t right. She blinks a couple times, but she sees nothing. Just darkness. Her mind stirs as she tries to process what’s going on.
She pinches herself to make sure she’s not sleeping anymore. She’s very much awake. She rubs her eyes, still nothing. She mutters what the hell and realizes she can’t hear herself. But then again, her vocal cords aren’t vibrating so she’s almost certain she’s not speaking either. Trying to remain calm, she reaches over to her nightstand and picks up her alarm clock and slams it down.
Nothing.
She hears nothing. She tries to scream, and she just knows, she hasn’t made a sound.
She feels a tear stroll down her cheek. Her breathing picks up and panic begins to overtake what’s left of her senses. She lives alone and she has no-one she can turn to. Without being able to see, speak, or hear, how is she going to navigate life? What is happening to her? Who can she trust? She’s at the mercy of other people, and she’d almost rather be dead than to have to put her life into another person’s hands.
The only thing she has left is her mind. She’s alone with her own thoughts and opinions, silenced to the rest of the world. Nobody deserves this. What a cruel way to live.
