Easter is almost here, we really should be doing fluffy posts! But instead…
We got a thriller (;
Set that timer and start typing away! (:
A random number texts you saying, “Don’t forget, you’re next.”
My example :
Naomi glanced at the number she didn’t recognize on her phone. She almost deleted the text message but hesitated once her eyes caught the preview of the content. Reluctantly, she opened it.
Her eyes widened in horror and her pulse sped up as she read the words on her screen :
Good evening Naomi Wexler. You will die if you don’t pay the cartel $1,500 by tomorrow morning. We have many eyes on you and if you call the police, little Luke and Connor are dead too. If you don’t pay up, we will kill your entire family before we kill you. Don’t tempt us. It’s your choice.
Bile rose in the back of Naomi’s throat. Her mind clouded and her hands began to shake. The message said not to call the police but she wasn’t sure what else to do. Tears streaked her face as she closed the curtains incase they were outside of her house now.
How did they know who little Luke and Connor were?
At the thought of this, she suddenly laughed out loud. Her body began to instantly relax, and her terrified tears turned into laughter tears. Through blurry vision, she crafted a message back and swiped at the wetness under her eyes.
Luke and Connor aren’t real. Not sure how you got their names from the internet but if you did your research properly, you would know they are fictitious characters in my unreleased novel. You must not be watching very good. What a sick scam.
A reply chimed on her phone almost immediately. She found herself pacing as she opened it.
Luke and Connor may not be real, but we are. We will make sure your fictitious characters never make it out into the world. And this is what we will do to your family. Pay up or face the consequences…
Naomi gasped in horror as graphic pictures of dismembered bodies flooded her phone. She read the next message and her blood ran cold.
Don’t pay us and this will be the end for the Wexler’s. After we send you photos of your family members body parts, we will watch you suffer before we come after you.
Below the message were more photos. Photos of her actual family with X’s over their eyes. When the stranger sent the last family members photo, another text appeared underneath.
Don’t forget, you’re next.
A photo of Naomi loaded just as she finished reading the last word. The picture was a selfie taken on her phone, never uploaded to any platform. There was no way for this scammer to have this photo. There was a drawn out line over her neck with X’s over her eyes too.
Either the scammer was really good with hacking or she really was in danger. She had a choice to make. Call the police or pay this stranger $1,500.
Unless…
She could call up the one person she knew who could help her figure out whether this was a real threat or not. And if it wasn’t the cartel, she was going to find out everything she could about the person or persons behind this disgusting hoax.
And believe her, they were going to not only get a taste of their own medicine, they were going to get the whole damn bottle.
These scams are getting out of control anymore. I hear that the scams can be very frightening and appear very real with well thought-out details. And the poor naive people out there who are so frightened that they get taken advantage of. But then again, what if were to be real? Would we know? Would the police be able to help us before the person behind the text does? Who knows anymore! This world is so scary. We have to tread very lightly these days – or else.
How’d you do pals?!
