Coming at ya with another romance prompt!

I’m going to post over the weekend for those who want to write daily but for those of you who only want prompts five days a week, this is your last one until Monday! (;

Enjoy the prompt & have an amazing weekend!!

A bookstore patron falls for one of the booksellers, but is too shy to speak to them. One day, they buy a book with a note tucked inside.

My example :

The bookstore was busy near the time Amelia arrived. Her weekly ritual of buying a book is less of her love for books and more for her attraction to the man who rang them up. Ethan. That was the brown-haired, hazel-eyed hunk she’d had her eye on for nearly five months.

She walked in and went straight for the fiction section she frequented every Thursday evening. She skimmed the books and was ready to grab one by Lisa Jewell, but instead she frowned when she realized she had read them all already. It was easier to grab books by the same author rather than searching for books she may not be able to withstand the writing style by the time she read it at home. Glancing at her options, she settled on a thriller book by another author and crossed her fingers it was worth the read.

Her heart skipped a beat as she waited in line. She watched Ethan ringing up other customers and imagined herself finally talking to him, but she quickly dismissed the thoughts. She wasn’t ready and she wasn’t sure if she would ever work up the courage to have a real conversation with him.

After waiting in line for nearly fifteen minutes, she walked up to the desk with her hands nearly trembling.

“Hey stranger,” Ethan smiled.

“Hey,” Amelia said, smiling shyly as she placed the book on the counter.

Ethan grabbed the book and went to ring it up when he stopped himself. “Oh, I almost forgot,” he said, turning around to grab something off the shelf behind him. “You can still buy that book if you want but I held this behind the counter for you just in case you were interested. It’s the new Lisa Jewell book and it’s been flying off the shelf.” He shrugged. “I kept it back here for you, so you were sure to get one.” He finished with a wink.

Amelia felt her cheeks growing hot. “That was so nice of you. I’ll get them both.”

Ethan looked pleased. After ringing them up, he placed the books in a bag and handed it to her. “Enjoy.”

“Thank you,” she said, grabbing the bag. She wasn’t even aware he knew her name. And he had held on to a Lisa Jewell book, remembering that’s what she read. Ethan remembered her. Well, of course he did, he had seen her every single week, but still. This was a day to remember.

When she got home, she kicked off her shoes and drew herself a bath. Another weekly ritual of hers. She would pamper herself by lighting candles around the bathroom and watch the water turn to a pretty pastel pink once she tossed the bath bomb in. She climbed in and turned the jets on. She then grabbed her Lisa Jewell book, ready to get lost in alternate reality.

Opening the first page, a small piece of paper slid into the bath water and she nearly dropped the book in with it. She quickly grabbed the paper and placed it on the side of the tub. Someone must have left a piece of paper in there as a bookmark, she thought at first. But then she remembered, it wasn’t a library book and she had actually bought it. Her stomach danced as she thought of Ethan and how he held the book for her. Could he have placed it in there?

She tossed the book on the bathroom floor and swiped the note up. The writing was blurry, but she could still make out what it said for the most part:

Amelia – Call or text me sometime. Ethan

A smile formed across her face and she was beaming ear to ear until she tried to read the next part. When she attempted to make out the phone number written, it was too muddled from the bath water to make it out.

No no no. This can’t be happening.

Her dream guy had noticed her and extended his phone number to her. Amelia feeling elated was an understatement but the nerves she felt were overtaking the excitement. Why did he make her feel so shy? She wasn’t shy at any other place with any other person but there was just something about Ethan.

And now, she had to confront him. No way was she going to let this pass her by. But how was she going to force herself to bring it up to him in person? After all, he didn’t say anything to her either. He left her a note.

That’s it, she thought, she could leave him a note back. Childish? Yes. But kinda cute? Also yes.

When she dried herself off and got dressed, she crafted a note and slid it into the second book she had just bought. She grabbed the receipt out of her purse and decided she would make a second trip this week to the bookstore. Tomorrow, she was going to return the book. To ensure he received the note, she would tell him that something was wrong with the way the book was printed.

She still couldn’t believe it.

Ethan had actually noticed her and wanted to get to know her. It was about time.

Will Ethan notice the note? Will Amelia watch in horror as he finds the note in front of her? Does someone else check the book and find the note… Maybe another employee or someone else buying the book? Either way, she is sure to get a happy ending. (;
