Writing Prompt – Day 11
Hey pals! I hope you had a fantastic weekend!!
We are back for our daily habit (five days a week) of sharpening our writing skills with the help of writing prompts! If you are new to Writing Prompt Pal, click here to find out how to do a writing prompt and what my blog is all about. (:
Alright, so, full disclosure here : I do not choose writing prompts that I think are going to be easy for me. I just choose one at random, rather I think I will enjoy it or not…
Sooo, with that being said, I came up with a brilliant idea…
I am always open to suggestions on writing prompts & if you send me your idea, I will link your blog site to this opening section when I use your prompt. You can use the comment section below or send me a message through my Contact page. That way you get exposure, and we get a new prompt! Good incentive, ayy? (;
Oh, and if you don’t want to be linked or you don’t have a blog site, by all means, send away your idea anyway! (Just let me know that you don’t want to be linked when you send your prompt suggestion.)
Aaaanyway, I have to save some of my genius for this writing prompt so, do you guys have your timer ready?
Good…
Let’s do this!
A stranger sits down next to you on a train and gets up, leaving a package behind. Do you investigate the package?
my example :
Mentally exhausted, Brian checks his watch. There’s less than a half hour left until the train makes it to the next station. After that, there’s only one more stop and he will finally be able to relax. His week has been long and he deserves, no – needs, this vacation more than anything.
His legs feel cramped and he can’t wait for the moment he can finally stretch again. He tries closing his eyes but he feels too restless. It’s hard for him to de-stress from a demanding job on top of his recent divorce with a cheating wife. Life needs to catch him a break.
He decides to pop his headphones in and tries to listen to a podcast. As soon as he clicks play, he looks to his right and is startled. Pulling his headphones out of his ears he apologizes to the man sitting next to him.
“I didn’t see you there. How long have you been sitting here for?”
The man doesn’t reply and just stares back at Brian.
Brian is confused. He was alone the whole ride, for hours, and all of a sudden – somehow, this man made his way to the seat next to him. Feeling unnerved by the man’s stare, Brian tries to talk to him again.
“I’m Brian by the way,” he smiles.
Again, no response.
The man reaches over to the side of him and grabs something. He places it down in front of Brian’s feet. He gets up and walks away, never having said a word.
Brian calls after him. “Hey, wait, what is-” There is no use in saying anymore. The guy left. Brian looks at the package on the floor and then scoots over to look for the guy. He is gone. There is no-one in the aisle, no trace of the mysterious man.
Brian sits back in his seat and stares at the box on the floor. He can feel the tension in his neck as the stress of this new situation sneaks its way into his body.
There are no markings on the box. It is taped up like an Amazon package with no evidence of what the contents inside are.
What the hell is he supposed to do with this package? Who even was that guy? Brian has never seen him before in his life, he is sure of it.
He picks the box up. His fingers feel a piece of paper on the side. He turns the box around and rips the paper off. Gently unfolding it, he reads the hand-written note:
Answer Brian.
Answer Brian? What the hell is this?
He starts to place the box back on the floor. He wants nothing to do with whatever this is but as he lowers it onto the floor, a cell phone rings from inside the box.
Answer Brian goes through his head. Now it makes sense.
His hands start to tremble and without giving it another thought, he opens the box. His eyes widen as his vision closes in on the contents inside – a cell phone, cash, and a gun.
He quickly closes the box and places it back on the floor. Leaning back, he closes his eyes.
What the hell is someone giving him these items for and what do they want? Do they have the right guy?
A moment later, the phone rings again. Brian answers.
“Who is this and what do you want?”
“I’m glad you received your package Brian. You will be arriving at the next train station in approximately six minutes. I need you to listen and follow my instructions very carefully. If you don’t, the guy you received the package from will take good care of you.”
There is a pause. And then, “Do you understand me?”
Brian swallows. His hands feel clammy and his stomach does a weird flip. Stammering, he answers “Yes.”
“Good. You are going to get off the train at the next station. You are then going to walk South until you reach Crimson Rd. You take a left there. Walk about half a mile down the road and you will see a white rental car waiting for you. The keys are in the glove compartment. Do not look back. You are going to immediately get into the car and drive back to your house. There will be a change of clothes waiting for you there. Put them on along with the gloves and mask. There’s enough cash in the box for you to get gas and food to fuel yourself for the job you are going to do.”
The room starts spinning as Brian tries to focus himself.
“What do you want me to do? Why me?” Brian forces out.
“Because Brian. You are the only guy for the job. You know the bank better than anyone else. You are going to take the gun and rob it for us. I will call you again once you get back to your house.”
“You want me to wh-“
“And Brian… we will know if you try to contact anyone or do anything to alert suspicion. We are watching you. If you try anything other than what we tell you to do…”
There is a quick moment of silence followed by sudden screams in the background.
“Brian! Brian! Oh God, what is happening. Please help me!” His ex-wife yells out.
Before Brian could say anything – click.
The train halts. He is now at the station.
Ahhh, what would you do in that situation?? Suddenly, I am glad I don’t work at a bank! Who knows who could have their eye on you…
No, but seriously, did you have fun with that prompt?!
I would love to hear how yours turned out! Comment yours in the section below if you would like to share. (:
And don’t forget, if you have any suggestions for a writing prompt, I am all ears!
See you pals tomorrow! (:
We have a calling to write & together we will make our dreams come true – one prompt at a time!
