Writing Prompt – Day 8
Back for another writing prompt. (:
Here’s a reminder if you aren’t sure what we are doing here. We are writing for a certain amount of time (any time or your choosing) for five days a week to sharpen our creativity and writing skills. For more information on how this works, click here!
The writing prompt we are using for the day is below along with my writing example. It doesn’t have to be perfect. We are free-flow writing without the stress of perfection.
If you would like to share yours below, it is always welcomed and encouraged to help other writers think outside the box or to get their inspiration flowing.
& please, don’t forget to have fun!
Here is today’s writing prompt…
Your husband accidentally sends you a text message meant for his mistress.
my example :
The clock had just struck five and Ashley’s next patient was running late. She stretched her neck from left to right and then stood up to stretch her legs. Her office door was open and she could hear the receptionist talking with her last patient to reschedule his next appointment.
It had been an exhausting day with a lot of breakthroughs. The exhaustion was worth it. Psychology had always been in the cards for her with both her parents having been retired psychologists. Imagine how tough that relationship would have been, always evaluating each other. But her parents were perfect for each other.
Ashley’s husband on the other hand was an attorney. Imagine evaluation mixed with interrogation. It wasn’t always the best but they made it work and Ashley loved him with all her heart.
She reached for her water and took a sip. Glancing at the clock on the wall, she sighed and took a seat. Her legs were fidgeting up and down impatiently as she waited to hear the door chime, announcing her patient’s arrival. After an excruciating minute, she finally heard it and she jumped back out of her seat, skipping over to the door with a welcoming smile on her face. After peeking around the corner, her smile turned into a frown as she watched her previous patient exiting the building.
It was now five minutes past and she wondered if she had another no-show. Therapy could be hard and some people gave up before they even gave it a real chance.
After roughly five more minutes, she shut her office door and decided to do some paperwork. There was tons of catching up to do; paperwork was never her strong suit, but still, it had to be done. Clicking away on her keyboard, she felt her phone vibrate in the drawer of her desk. She pulled it open and smiled when she seen it was a text from her husband.
Grabbing the phone out, she read the message and her smile vanished quicker than it came. It instantly felt like someone had kicked her in the gut. She read the message again just to be sure she had read it right the first time.
Hey babe! I’m leaving in five. My wife is still at work, for about an hour or so. We have to make it quick this time. Remember, I reserved a room at the Oakley Hotel. NOT the Slumber Inn like usual. That place is a joke. Room 105. See you soon. P.S. I’ll talk to my wife soon and we will finally be together, I promise. (:
Tears flooded Ashley’s eyes. There was no mistaken what she read. Her stomach was already twisting in knots when her phone alerted her with another message from her husband. This time it was actually for her.
I might be running a little late tonight. Court has been crazy. I’ll pick up some dinner. Maybe Chinese. I know that’s your favorite (; I love you wifey! Xoxo.
Ashley could feel herself being taken over by rage. Could he be that careless, so damn stupid to not realize what he had just sent her? Was this some kind of sick joke?!
It was coming up on their five-year anniversary. They had been happy, hadn’t they? There were no red flags, were there? She was a psychiatrist for heaven’s sake. She would think she would have some kind of clue that her husband was unhappy and cheating on her.
Could she really have been that blind?
She checked the clock – 15 minutes late.
That’s it… Not her. She wasn’t going to be that wife.
With determination she shut her computer off, pushed her chair in, and grabbed her coat and keys. Locking the door behind her, Ashley pushed down the nauseating feeling to throw up and plastered a fake smile on her face.
“Have a good night Susan. I had a no-show, he was my last patient for the night. I gotta run but I’ll see you tomorrow morning.”
Practically running to her car, Ashley quickly got in. The engine roared as it turned over.
Oakley Hotel was it? Room 105? Only ten minutes from where she was currently.
Without a second thought, she wiped the fallen tear away off her cheek. Without buckling her seatbelt, she turned the dial to blast the music and floored it out of the parking lot.
Oooh, I would hate to be Josh right now. One of two things were about to happen. Either Ashley was going to show up at that hotel or she would never even make it there; her not buckling her seatbelt and the state of mind she was in could have been significant.
Well writing pals, did you have fun with that?? I know I did!
