Alert : Soulmate in Proximity

Writing Prompt – Day 6

We are back for another week of writing prompts! Yay!

I swear time flies, it didn’t even feel like two days of no writing. But I guess that goes to show how not writing everyday can slowly (or more like quickly) slip away from us, and before we know it, we may not even be writing anymore. ):

But not to worry. We are not going to let that happen. And to be sure, we are abolutely dedicated to our five days each week of writing prompts, right guys? That’s right! (;

Today’s prompt is a romance one.

Here we go!

In the future, romantic attraction is literal : each person is fitted with an electromagnetic bracelet which, they claim, will pull you to your soulmate. It’s the day they turn the magnets on, and you’re waiting.

My Example :

I can’t really help it, I am just so excited! In less than five minutes the bracelets are going to be turned on and I will be destined to meet my soulmate.

No more exhausting dating…

No more horror stories of psycho exes…

No more getting cheated on…

No more “It isn’t you, it’s me” crap…

No more, no more, no more and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

Only three more minutes to go…

I imagine he is going to be tall, but not too tall, with dark hair and gorgeous blue eyes, tanned skin, with clothes that hug his fit body. If SMCorp did their job, they will not let me down. Okay, so I must admit that I am acting like a twelve-year-old girl who just found her interest in boys, when in reality, I am a twenty-nine-year-old woman who has had her fair share of the dating life. And I am completely and utterly over it. So I apologize if I come off as a bit child-like but literally, my dreams are about to come true and my life is going to finally start and with none other than the man of my dreams! And-

Ooh, it’s time!

An alert chimed on the watch around Lucy’s wrist. She clicked the button with the blinking red light above it and played the message awaiting her.

“Thank you all for your patience. Click the green button now to activate your SoulMate device and feel the magnetic pull all the way to the one you have been waiting for your whole life. Remember, safety first. Watch for traffic and other pedestrians as you make your way to your other half. If you need to perform an emergency shut down on your wrist device, hold the green button down for three seconds and it will turn the magnetic force off. We wish you all the happiest of marriages and of course, thank you in choosing SoulMate Corporation.”

Butterflies had a party in Lucy’s stomach as her shaky hand pressed the green button.

“Holy shit, they weren’t kidding,” Lucy said, while almost being dragged out the front door from an invisible force communicating with her bracelet.

She held her wrist out and allowed the bracelet to pull her on a five-minute walk to the local park. She looked down at her bracelet to see a green blinking light speeding up each time she took a step. Knowing she was close to her chosen future husband, she looked around at all the other people hugging their soulmates until her eyes stopped at the one person standing alone, looking around to find, well, to find Lucy.

“Oh my God,” Lucy spat out.

She quickly hid behind a tree and held the emergency shut-off button for three seconds. The magnetic force immediately stopped and she peeked around the corner to see if she was right. Her heart sank as she watched Phil, of all people Phil, jab at his wrist device, trying to get his to work again.

There is no way this is happening. They chose Phil for me? There must be a mistake!

She sighed. And then she turned her bracelet back on, waiting for the inevitable to happen. A minute later, Phil walked past the tree and then looked over his shoulder at her.

“Bloody hell, no way they picked you to be my soul mate!”

Lucy scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Well, I can assure you there’s been a mistake. Trust me, I thought the same thing.”

“Yeah, well, they ‘claim’ it’s impossible for their high tech to make a mistake. And that’s why I gave this stupid thing a chance. I knew it was too good to be true.”

“Hey, I am not totally that bad. You don’t have to be so rude about it. You aren’t no treasure yourself by the way.”

Phil raised his brows at her.

“Okay, Okay. I know this sucks. But hey, we will get this all sorted out and get new bracelets and we don’t ever have to see each other again. In fact, let’s go to their headquarters right now. Follow me.”
