Get ready to crush another writing prompt!
Set that timer…
annnnd…
Here we go!
As you’re browsing through a rack of sweaters, someone approaches you and says, “I need you to listen to me very carefully.”
my example :
Laurie was getting ready for her date – her blind date – in less than a few hours. She made her way to the run-down local mall that barely had any stores in it anymore, but she was desperate. Her wardrobe felt as old as, well, as old as she was.
Coming up on fifty-three didn’t exactly make her feel like a spring chicken and she was nervous for this date. She hadn’t been on one in God knew how long but her mom – her mom for God’s-sake – set her up on this blind date. But her mom was right. It was time for her to get back out there again.
A welcoming chime went off as Laurie made her way into a store that was normally out of her budget. But since she got an unexpected raise last week, it was time she spoiled herself for a night. She fingered through some jeans and then her eye caught the sweater rack. It was late January so you could never go wrong with a flattering sweater. She picked up a sweater, held it up to her and turned to look in the mirror. She froze.
The woman standing directly behind her whispered in her ear. “I need you to listen to me very carefully.”
Laurie spun around, her sweater lightly grazing the woman in red. “Who are you?”
“I will explain everything but right now, I need you to do everything I tell you to do, exactly as I say.”
Laurie’s hands were trembling as she slowly put the sweater back. “I don’t underst-“
The woman had a look in her eye that sent a chill down Laurie’s spine. The woman snapped. “Listen to me. There is no more time.”
Laurie nodded her head and tried to keep her breathing at an even pace. “Okay. You’re scaring me. What is going on? What do you need me to do?”
“See that man over there?” said the woman, nodding in the direction diagonally behind Laurie.
She slowly turned her head and allowed her eyes to glance over the man. She quickly looked back at the woman. “Yes,” she replied, her voice shaking.
Okay guys, don’t ask me how a store out of Laurie’s budget is still standing in a run-down mall. I had fifteen minutes. That’s all I can say lol! And yes, there are plenty of mistakes but remember… no editing needed! It’s fun, free flow writing not to be taken too seriously, a much-needed mental break from the intensity of writing a book.
If you are anything like me, I stress while writing my book but these writing prompts are allowing me to enjoy writing without the stress! (Not that writing a book can’t be fun, because it definitely is… but I’m an over-thinker, so, you can imagine what writing + creating + over-thinking equals looks like!)
Anyway, I would love to hear how yours turned out! Comment your example in the comment section below to share with others and help them get their creativity flowing.
