Writing Prompt – Day 1
Hello! I’m going to keep this brief so we can get on with our first daily writing prompt! If you click here, it will explain what this site is all about. I’m excited to get into this daily writing habit with you so we can become better writers together!
Okay, so, I’m going to choose a consistent time of fifteen minutes each day. In each post, you will find a writing prompt to get creative with for the amount of time of your choosing. Underneath the prompt, you will find an example of my own unedited writing.
This is a judgment free zone. And remember, our writing is not meant to be perfect, it may not even be good, but it’s a daily exercise to grow in our creativity and skills. Don’t worry about editing, just write and let it flow.
Day 1 – here we come!
You find strange, muddy footprints leading up to your front door.
My example :
I grabbed my raincoat, slid it on, and threw on rain boots I hadn’t worn in over a year. Mascara ran down my face in a river of tears. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I paused, trying to give myself a chance to catch my breath. Maybe to even think my way out of this situation. But of course, he wasn’t going to allow me even a moment. The gun pointed at my back buried itself deeper into my skin.
“Get moving,” James said.
I didn’t know what his actual name was but he looked like a James to me. I had no idea why I felt compelled to name him, but I did anyway. In fact, I never knew the reason behind half the things I did. Like why I had to go poking my nose in other people’s business. Why I had to follow my neighbors that night, spying on them, and seeing something I shouldn’t have. Why I had to get caught by them. Why I had to travel on my own to this cabin to get away from it all. And why I had to find myself with a gun to my back, threatening to blow the life out of me.
“Get moving or I pull this God-damn trigger,” James said.
I shakily grabbed for the doorknob and twisted it open. I winced as the rain beat against my skin and I quickly put my hood up. I folded my arms and held on tight as the wind and rain blasted my cheeks. I looked down, taking small steps, the gun still pushed firmly on my spine. I took a few steps forward and my heart began racing as I seen footprints – fresh prints – in the mud beyond the porch. It looked like someone walked right up to the porch and cut a sharp right, but then the footprints mysteriously disappeared. I didn’t know whether to feel hope or fear.
Maybe someone knew I was here and was coming to rescue me. Or maybe James had a partner and he was here to help him. Or maybe I’m imagining the footprints in my head, wishing them to be there. But either way, it couldn’t get much worse than this…
Could it?
Well, that was fun!
Remember – judgement free zone lol!
